League/Schedule
The Portsmouth Abbey team faces rigorous competition from some of the top preparatory schools in New England. As a member of the NESSL League we face league opponents Austin Prep, Cushing Academy, Dexter, Northfield Mt. Hermon, Phillips Exeter and traditional non-league schools Berwick Academy, Bridgeton  Academy, Brooks School, Canterbury School, Naval Academy Prep School, Kimball Union Academy, Worcester Academy and instate  rivals Bishop Hendricken and Mt. St. Charles.
Spring Trip
For five days during spring break, the team travels to Baltimore, MD to practice at Johns Hopkins University, and scrimmage with local Baltimore prep schools.
Coaching Philosophy
The boys lacrosse program at Portsmouth Abbey encourages students to reach their potential in the classroom and on the lacrosse field. Players are challenged to become better stick handlers, improve their tactical knowledge, set individual goals and to be team players. Our practices are fast-paced and include many transitional drills and situations.
Multi-Sport Athlete
The coaches also encourage players to participate in other sports, which helps to develop their overall athleticism. A majority of our lacrosse players are two- and three-sport letter winners.
At the Next Level
We assist each senior who is interested in combining academics and lacrosse in college to find a good match. Recent Portsmouth Abbey graduates have continued their academic and lacrosse careers at the following institutions: Alfred University, Air Force Academy, Army (5) (Captains, 2013, 2017), Babson (2), Bates College (2), Beloit College (2) (Captains, 2012, 2016), Bentley University (2), Bowdoin College, Catholic University of America, College of the Holy Cross, Colby College, Connecticut College (2), Dickinson College, Endicott College, Fairfield University (Captain, 2005), Guilford College (NC), Hamilton College, Haverford College (Captain, 2006), Kenyon College (Captain, 2014, 2015), Marquette University (Captain 2023), McGill University, Merrimack College, Michigan, Penn State (Captain 2016), University of Pennsylvania (Captain, 2017), Rhodes College, Rollins College (3), St. Anselm College, St. Michaels College, Sewanee College, Skidmore College (4), Springfield College (3), Union College (2) (Captain, 2011), USMMA (2) (Kings Point), Washington and Lee University, Wooster and Williams College.
