endowments & capital projects

Capital and endowment gifts are investments in the long-term strength and future of Portsmouth Abbey School. These transformational contributions help sustain and enhance the programs, people, and campus that define the Portsmouth Abbey experience, ensuring that the School remains a vibrant and mission-driven institution for generations to come.

While Annual Fund gifts provide essential support for current operations, endowment and capital gifts build the School's future. Capital gifts strengthen and improve our physical campus, while endowment gifts create permanent financial resources that provide ongoing support year after year. Together, they help secure Portsmouth Abbey's financial stability, support strategic priorities, and preserve our Benedictine tradition of thoughtful stewardship.

A strong endowment is a hallmark of a thriving independent school. Endowment income provides a dependable source of funding that reduces reliance on tuition, strengthens financial flexibility, and supports innovation and excellence across the School. Today, Portsmouth Abbey's endowment is at an all-time high and contributes approximately 7–8% of the School's annual operating income—a testament to the generosity of alumni, parents, grandparents, and friends, as well as prudent investment management.

Endowment support benefits both current and future students by providing lasting resources for academics, faculty excellence, student opportunities, and the monastic community that is central to the School's mission. Capital and endowment gifts ensure that Portsmouth Abbey can continue to educate young men and women in the pursuit of knowledge and grace for generations to come.

We are deeply grateful for the extraordinary generosity of our community, whose commitment through endowment and capital giving has strengthened Portsmouth Abbey's foundation and expanded its possibilities for the future.
